| | Redrafting, rewriting, growing, and reshaping are all a part of the year-to-year life of a creative, a camp professional, and a Christian. In many ways, the past year has been a second draft. Each day, each event, each program, and each month, we have had a chance to improve on our original copy. It is a gift to grow and dive deeper into the tools, gifts, and people God puts in our lives to carry out his plan. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” This verse has been carried through the last six months of our camp programs. For our 2023 camp heme, we’ve called God’s handiwork, prepared in advance, “My Story.” | |
| | We’ve talked about how, like a painting, poem, or novel, God has crafted us into unique individuals who he made with gifts and a purpose; he made us with a purpose to share our gifts and stories with others so that they would know the love of God better. He made us with a desire to be in community, sharing our stories and helping each other. | |
| | | "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” | |

| | We have been gifted with the privilege and responsibility to meditate on this theme as we’ve created programs around it. We’ve gotten to lean into the radical idea that God made us a work of are u there that has the ability to do good works. As we’ve leaned into this message, as I’ve thought of my life as “My Story,” I’ve been able to reflect on the idea of “second drafts.” In 2023, we held our second summer on the new campus, hosted guest groups, put on movie nights, threw holiday parties, created new Weekend Getaways, and grew our Special Olympics programs. As I reflect, I think about how each program and relationship has been a chance at a “second draft” - a chance to develop our characters in “My Story.” It’s been another year filled with learning and growing, hard and good, character development and plot twists– all the things that make a story interesting. It’s easy to look back on 2023 with thankfulness for the blessings big and small– like our sweet, growing Special Olympics team, the relief in doing some programs for a second time, and the growing community surrounding this ministry. I am even thankful for the idea of a second draft. A chance to do better, love better, and grow closer to Jesus. As we move onward toward the revisions the next 365 days have in store, we want to thank you for your part in Our Story. Thank you for the support and the love you pour into this ministry. What a grand story God is writing. | |

So, as a staff, we are constantly looking for opportunities for connection. This is why we have weekend getaways, movie nights, and special events in addition to summer camp. We want to provide high-quality events and programs that everyone enjoys and wants to attend. These programs and events bring together people and ultimately allow authentic relationships to grow. | | | Eva Allard, Year Long Intern | |
| | Life these past few months has been an ebb and flow of challenges, growth, and community. As I am newer to serving in camp ministry, I’ve been challenged and humbled by all the new responsibilities and projects that I’ve had to learn how to do. Through the support and encouragement of camp staff I’ve adjusted well and have learned new skills and ideas. Throughout the highs and lows of camp ministry God has been teaching me to rely on him and those around me for help when I’m struggling or feel like giving up. This is truly the perfect place to serve and love the unloved and to place other people’s needs and wants before mine.
So far, I’ve loved coaching our Special Olympics bowling team, prepping and running our Spooktacular Extravaganza and Very Merry Christmas party, and helping lead our CamperMaxer’s in service and discipleship!! Our Holiday Getaway in November was my first time running camp as an intern, so it was a bit overwhelming at first, but as it got better I loved getting to serving our campers and counselors. I’m really looking forward to growing in camp ministry through running our upcoming getaway’s, leading our Young Athletes program, and building relationships with campers and volunteers!!

| | Help us continue to provide opportunities, community, and love to our campers with disabilities.
| |
| | Each year that passes in ministry, we stand back in awe and thankfulness for the generosity of so many. We have witnessed many miracles that have gotten us to where we are today. The past three decades have taught us much about relying on God and His people to provide the means to sustain Camp Daniel. When sharing the needs of our ministry, we have always strived to be led by God. In this new year, we come to you to ask for help with our finances. The costs of everyday living have risen for everyone, and we have experienced the same here at Camp Daniel. Financial giving peaked near the end of the Dining Hall/ Health Center project when we opened camp fully. Since then, we have experienced downturns in giving, as so many non-profits have over the last few years. We have rarely sought funding through traditional asking and instead relied on God's provision in the relationships forged over the years. This place in our newsletter has always been our most traditional way of asking for help. So we ask you to consider helping us at this time. Our most significant need is regular monthly supporters, the backbone of a ministry such as this. Amounts from $10 to $300 monthly are required to help with monthly expenses. Those regular gifts are counted on to pay the bills and bring much security to daily operations at Camp Daniel. One-time gifts are also needed to continue building the campus's final details. These funds will go towards fencing along raised paths and continuing the concrete pathways and driveways, essential for camper accessibility and safety. We also look toward moving the mini cabins that NWTC helped build into place this spring, entailing digging in electricity, pouring footings, renting an extended-boom forklift with 9-foot forks, and more. If you have ever come on a campus tour, you know the stories of the many miracles that have made Camp Daniel possible. Be a part of the miracle that is Camp Daniel, and help us continue to provide opportunities, community, and love to our campers with disabilities. | |

| | | | 2023 Recap Through the Seasons | | | |
| | | Winter Early winter 2023 ushered in two new Camp Daniel programs– Girls Weekend Getaway and Man Camp Weekend Getaway. These mini-camps were another chance to connect deeper between summer camp seasons and create a weekend just for the guys and one just for the girls. At these Weekend Getaways, we began what would lead to our ‘My Story’ theme in small groups and chapel; we tested new ways of connecting campers to Jesus through the storytelling of the bible characters Esther and Joseph. | |

| | | Spring Amongst preparations for summer camp, our spring was filled with Special Olympics. We spent the winter practicing and growing as a team, and in April, our 3v3 basketball teams competed at the Spring Games in Oshkosh. During this time, we also started a new program for kids called Young Athletes. This is a movement and play program for kids with and without disabilities ages 2 to 10. We now offer sports and play programs for ages 2 and up! It has been amazing to watch this team grow, connecting our campers year-round and bringing in new people to the camp family. | |
| | | Summer The summer months held our second summer on the Little Newton Lake Campus. We were able to add an extra week of summer camp and a new program called Sibs Camp. Sibs Camp is a program designed to connect kids who grow up with a sibling with a disability. A fantastic addition to the 2023 summer was the return of our Summer Internship Program. This team of teens and young adults helped lead in all camp areas, supported campers and counselors, and brought irreplaceable energy and life to the summer programs! It was a massive relief to the Camp Daniel staff to have this support system throughout the summer. | |

| | | Fall The fall months were packed full of hosting guest groups, movie nights, holiday parties, Special Olympics bowling, and our second Holiday Weekend Getaway! A season that used to be called the “off-season” is now very much “on.” Some highlights include hosting the Wisconsin National Guard and Northwoods Songwriters Retreat. Put on by longtime camp speaker James Kocian, songwriters came from as far as Canada and New Zealand to attend. Hosting guest groups is a great way to get the word out about camp and help bring in money to keep our program cost low for our campers. In November, we had our second Holiday Getaway, which was our first completely full Weekend Getaway since we launched these programs. We celebrated kicking off all of the holidays and talked about the story of Jesus’s birth and how all the characters in it had a gift to share in his story. | |

| | | Winter We began this winter by wrapping up our Special Olympics bowling season. Our team, which tripled in size in 2023, competed and placed in the state games. Over 50 people went to state to cheer on the athletes. We hosted the 6th annual Very Merry Christmas Party with over 250 guests attending the event! We had food, live music, games, campfires, movies, visits with Santa, and a pop-up shop with items created by people in our CamperMax program! Then, staff took a holiday break, resting and recouping, getting ready for the new year! | |

| | The last two years, our team has worked hard at developing new programs and events. Looking into the new year our team looks toward prioritizing refining those now existing programs and events. We value slow growth; it allows space for change and improvement. We anticipate in our upcoming year, refining what we have started and focusing on serving people well through these programs. In order to maintain and refine programs and events, we are in need of financial support and volunteers. Here is how you can help: | |
| | | | Volunteer: We are in need of volunteers for our upcoming programs and events. We are looking for men and women of all generations (14-80+) to volunteer as counselors, kitchen crew, support crew, nurses, and more. No experience is required; all training and support is provided. | | | |
| | | | | Give:In this new year, we come to you to ask for help with our finances. Our most significant need is regular monthly supporters, the backbone of a ministry such as this. Amounts from $10 to $300 monthly are needed to help with monthly expenses. Visit campdaniel.org to give today. | | | |
